We Have An Official Big Girl!

Friday evening Hali had very possibly her last diaper change (if not very last, then one of the last).  After cleaning her up she announced that she wanted to wear “pretty Dora panties”. So I headed for the office, thinking we’d give her booty a breather before putting on another diaper, because I thought surely she just wants to tease me.  Nope.  It was the real thing.  She walked into the office with panties and a grin on.  I then asked her if she wanted to “go” on the potty chair.  She said yes. WHAT?! You do?!

So I ran into the bathroom, pulled out her little potty chair and helped her sit on it.  She did it, ya’ll!  BOY did she do it! So we hurrayed and clapped and had M&Ms.  And then she did it again.  Repeat the process.  Call everyone who would talk to me.  Popped popcorn, watched favorite Dora episode. Yay.

That night I couldn’t help but think it was a fluke.  She has done this before and then refused to go on the potty chair anymore. I was so anxious. As I was putting her to bed, I brought up that in the morning, she could sit on the potty with mom and go. She on her little one, of course.  She excitedly agreed and then drifted off to sleep.

Fast forward to the morning.  She woke up and immediately joined me in the bathroom where she did it again!  YES!!! Let me tell you, by the time her head hit the pillow Saturday night, she probably had half a bag of M&Ms and not a single accident.

Sunday morning.  Same thing.  Up and down the stairs all morning.  Lots of candy. Me sitting at the breakfast table with Jeremy as Hali played (she finished eating fast). Crying.  Jeremy uncomfortable. Sorry honey.  At least he wasn’t present for my Bawlfest the night before.  We were just talking about how amazing it was that she just up and decided that she was ready to ditch the diapers all by herself (we’d been told eventually this would happen).  Then my eyes started doing this annoying watering thing.  Before I knew it, Jeremy was patting me on the back and I was soaking my bagel.

This is IT.  She’s not a baby anymore. She is Independent.  I mean SERIOUSLY! What am I going to DO?! Oh yes. I believe it goes something like this:

FREAK FRAC FREAKIDY FREAKIN FRAAAAAAC!!! WHOOOOOHOOOOO! NO MORE DIAPERS! THAT’S AN EXTRA 20+ BUCKS A MONTH! I AM NO LONGER ASHAMED OF MY 3′3 35 POUND 3.75 YEAR OLD WEARING DIAPERS!!!

Fortunately, how sad I am about this big step away from babyhood is overpowered by the sheer THRILL of it all.  It has been a struggle for 2.25 years for us, and now NOW it is here.  Hali is potty trained.  I am grinning even as I type this.

Thrift Finds #1

Notice I’ve Numbered the title? Cocky of me, I’m sure, but I do hope to be able to find great thrift finds in the future to brag about share with you all!

I found these at the local thrift store, Peddler’s Mall.  To tell the truth, I’m not even sure if it is technically a thrift store.  There are tons of “booths” from all the different “vendors” that sell their stuff there.  The vendors are almost never actually there- I think they just give the owner a percentage to sell the stuff.  Anywho, here’s what I got:

I love love LOVE French wire baskets, and had spotted several at a previous visit.  I’m the kind of shopper who has to really think about something before I buy it.  Usually this means I go back and get it after I’ve gone home and thought about it for a while.  So that’s what I did.

I had plans on actually using this.  Unfortunately, so did Hali, apparently.  The only real problem with that is the basket, as you can see in the picture, is quite rusty. I decided I liked the look (Jeremy agreed) so I left it as is.  Poor Hali just wanted to lug the giant thing around (it really is fairly large, heavy, and unwieldy) and get rust all over herself and whatever she touched. So on top of the refrigerator it went. For now.

I have a bit of an obsession with all things organizational.  Especially container/bins/baskets/boxes/you get the idea. It was a buck and looks good on my desk.

Still Working on Hali’s Room…

Before I even started Hali’s room redo (it still needs a few finishing touches, but pictures are coming soon!) I was thoroughly going over Apartment Therapy Nursery.  Not because we live in an apartment- we don’t (anymore thank goodness) but because I wanted her room to have so many different functions and I wanted it to function well.

She needs: to sleep, read, color/draw, play, dress, relax, entertain her parents (she hosts many tea parties but more on that later), and just be a kid.  All in her space.  Not to mention her good sized wardrobe and accesory collection need to be stored there, as do a TON of toys, and her growing library.

I wanted everything to be organized and have a clean yet fun and playful look to it.  I wanted it to be a happy room, and Apartment Therapy Nursery has some great example of how I could accomplish that.  My style is always evolving as are Hali’s needs, likes, and dislikes. She’s Hali though, so I think she’ll always love pink!

We spent a good couple hours on her room today and I have changed a few things I wasn’t planning on changing again, but I believe this room is really going to work for us.  I say us, because Hali is rarely in her room without me.  I can’t wait to finish up!

Randomness

- We are looking for a new home. Not because we hate ours (we don’t, it’s the best rental home in the world in our price range and a super good deal).  We want to be closer to Jeremy’s work, plus we used to live in that area and really like it. Our lease here is up in a few weeks.  It’s hard to believe it’s been a year.  If we don’t find anything we’re thrilled with then we’ll just stay put until next year when we will build or buy.

- I just started using the Proactive off brand Acne Free.  I took before pictures and everything.  I got it at Walmart (I’ve also seen it at Sam’s and yes I realize it’s all the same owner) and am quite excited about it.  My little sister uses it and she says it really makes a big difference, the only problem is that it quits working after a while, so you have to switch on and off it.

I just got so tired off the pimples and acne. I have had acne since I was a pre-teen.  I’m a mom now, for goodness sakes!  I have under eye and forehead wrinkles! I am a REAL adult! ( I know you know what I mean.)

- I was using this prescription that my mom gave me (bad bad you should never do that) for our excessive overactive underarm sweat problem (apparently its genetic).  It’s a liquid that you rub on your pits every night.  It worked amazingly, but required a prescription.

Last week, I found Certain Dri.  At about four dollars, it was less than half the cost of the prescription, works just as well, and is easier to apply.  And it doesn’t require a prescription! You don’t’ have to consult your doctor about your sweaty pits! I found Certain Dri at Walmart as well by the other deodorants and antiperspirants.

You guys, I can work out, be pouring sweat everywhere BUT my pits now! That’s how awesome it is. I feel like a normal person now.  I have always been so self conscious about my sweaty pit stains. It used to be that it took no actual physical activity to get me sweating.  No more. And yes, I realize how “testimonial” that just sounded, but it’s all true.  It works so well and has just taken such a load off my mind that  I wanted to share it!

- I lost another couple pounds, despite not being strictly on the diet. Yay me!

Getting Use Out of the Useless

I am very picky about fashions in clothing.  One item of clothing that I have never been particularly fond of is the bloomer.  You know, those cutsie little elasticized diaper/underwear cover ups?  To me, they are just overboard. Too much. I have to say that they just don’t look comfy, either.  Plus, down here in the south, where its over 100 degrees, plus the heat index (which is a lot seeing how humid we always are) it is just one more extra layer of clothing that no one needs.

Unfortunately- or rather fortunately, now that I have figured out what to do with them, they come with dressed for little girls a lot.  I brainstormed after cleaning out Hali’s closet a few weeks ago, and came up with in my modest opinion, a great use for them.

No, something better than laying them out on your carpet or wearing them as masks (though that is super fun and entertaining for a little while)! Keep going….

Purses! Or is it a bag? What’s the difference? Should I look this one up? Should I medicate my OCD?

The cute little bugs on this fabric were just too cute to toss, so I cut off the leg holes, sewed the bottom up, added a liner (my very first liner, I might add, thank you very much) cut some white ribbon for a handle, and presented it to Her Royal Highness.

Her Highness was quite pleased and proceeded to Her Royal Bedchamber wherein she commenced to Fill it with Jewels and Coins- not to mention the ever-so-important Markers and Paper.

This is the biggest purse she has, so it did seem very spacious to her.  I was just happy she managed to hold still for exactly two and a half seconds so I could snap a picture of her with it. Not to mention she actually modeled it for the shot- normally she refuses out of principle. What that principle that is, I don’t know…
